How do I clean copper jewelry?
Over time, the surrounding air and skin reaction will cause uncoated copper jewelry to tarnish. Tarnishing is a natural process, so it makes sense to use natural items to eliminate the dark, grimy appearance.
Take a look around the house to use one of the following natural items to naturally polish your Tamba copper jewelry. There is no need to use harsh chemicals to polish.
- Vinegar and salt: Rub a mixture of 1 tablespoon of table salt and 1 cup of white vinegar onto the copper with a soft cloth and rinse. Or, immerse the tarnished copper into a pot of 3 cups of water and the salt-vinegar mixture, bring to a boil and boil until the grime and tarnish come off. Once the copper is cool, wash it with soap and water, rinse and rub with a soft cloth.
- Ketchup: Not just for your burgers, a small amount of this common kitchen condiment can be rubbed onto tarnished copper to restore its natural luster. Then rinse and dry.
- Lemon: To naturally clean copper pots and pans, and less fragile copper pieces, cut a lemon in half, add salt to the cut side and rub gently onto the item. You can also make a paste with lemon juice, and equal parts salt and non-oxidized cornstarch or baking soda.
- Baking soda: Combine this mineral with lemon juice to clean copper naturally, or sprinkle just baking soda onto a cloth and polish the tarnished copper.
Polishing copper jewelry is as easy as finding an acidic item in the kitchen. Lemon and ketchup are both excellent for cleaning copper jewelry. Simply place the piece of jewelry in a small bowl and cover with your choice of cleaner. Let it soak for no longer than 20 minutes. If necessary, use a soft toothbrush to reach into crevices on the jewelry. Use mild soap and water to wash the acidic cleaner off the jewelry and pat dry with a soft cloth. The piece of copper jewelry should regain its shine and look new again.
The skin, which has come into contact with the uncoated copper on your jewelry, will occasionally turn green. This is a natural chemical reaction that happens when the metal interacts with sweat and oils. It's referred to as copper chelating. It acts as proof that the copper is reacting and working with their body. It's easy to remove the green color. Actually, the green color is a sign that the copper element is working to enter your body and give you the mineral absorption your body craves.
To remove the green color, simply wash it with warm soap and water.
